Beat the Holiday Bulge!

A Woman’s Guide to Holiday Health

By Natalie Griffith

Did you know that it is possible to gain up to 10 pounds during the holiday season? That’s right ladies, throughout a two month span you can gain up to 10 POUNDS! Personally, I always seem to gain a little weight over the holidays. Let me tell you, there’s just something about trying on that new shirt you got for Christmas and it’s too tight…yeah, slightly depressing. Throughout the week you will read about healthy tips and recipes. So, get ready to overindulge on ways to beat the holiday bulge!

To get you started...

Yams and sweet potatoes are packed with vitamins. This non-fat recipe has my friends begging me to bring it to our potlucks and dinners. Serve it as a side dish in place of potatoes.

INGREDIENTS:
3-4 sweet potatoes
1/4 cup orange marmalade
1 tablespoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cardamom
2 tablespoons brown sugar

PREPARATION:
Prick and bake sweet potatoes for 45 minutes at 450 degrees, or microwave until done (about 6 minutes each potato.)
Halve and scoop out the potatoes and discard the skin.

Mash the potatoes

Melt 1/4 cup orange marmalade over low heat in a saucepan (or microwave in a bowl.)

Add 1 Tbsp.
