If you’re looking for somewhere cozy other than your usual place, venture down to Port Arthur and try on Dylan’s for size. Located at 8601 9th Avenue, near Central Mall, this bar and grill underwent some major changes after Hurricane Rita. Sporting a classier, more neighborhood-chic style, and renamed after the owner’s son, Dylan’s has become one of the coolest pubs around. This hip hangout has come a long way since my waitressing days as a college Freshman when it was known as the Handlebar.
Seldom is there a dull evening. Every Tuesday employees Kris and Matt take the stage, Wednesdays are karaoke night, while every Friday and Saturday night there is a live band to enjoy. This Friday will be local favorite Jimmy Kaiser and his band, playing the best in Texas country and southern rock. They also offer games such as shuffleboard, darts, video poker and trivia, as well as washers, with a tournament taking place the first Sunday of every month.
The food is none too shabby, either. Their expanded menu offers good prices and great variety. When I was pregnant I craved their sampler platters and my favorite has always been the El Guaco burger, which on Sundays, along with all the other burgers, are half price. They also have a full bar, of course, featuring nightly specials.
