Haunted Hay Rides

By Anna Sites

Halloween is creeping closer and closer and the air is finally starting to cool. There’s no better time to enjoy a hay ride with the family than now. Saturday and Sunday of this weekend and next (October 17, 18, 24, 25) head out to Terrell Park for the annual Haunted Hay Ride, co-sponsored by Stable-Spirit. The first ride leaves at 7:30 pm for the 25 minute trip down the decorated spook trail, where actors await to thrill visitors of all ages. Free cookies, punch and hot cocoa will be provided to replenish the souls of the guests before or after they brave the dark woods. It’s a perfect opportunity to get a little more wear out of those costumes. Maybe even you moms will be moved to don some cat ears or such and get into the spirit of things (you know you want to!). Admission for the evening is $8 for adults, $5 for children 10 and under and the last ride leaves at 10 pm.

Fifty percent of the proceeds from both weekends will go to Stable-Spirit, which has been working with Terrell Park for three years. This local non-profit organization offers Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Equine Experiential Development (EED). In EAP, the association’s unusual use of horses to aid people in need of help with mental health or emotional issues is quite an amazing concept. Children as young as five can benefit from the unique therapy, but those ages ten and older are usually preferred candidates as they are better able to understand the treatment. EED offers a different but equally interesting approach to correlating interactions between an individual- or group- with a horse to interactions in business or every day situations.
