PROJECT 1200
Beaumont, TX– The Jefferson County Tobacco Prevention & Cessation Coalition will collect 1200 pairs of gently used shoes from the public in the month of March to represent the 1200 lives lost daily to tobacco related illnesses. The shoes will be displayed at Central Mall in Port Arthur from Friday, April 4 through Sunday, April 6, with set-up beginning Thursday, April 3. Following the display, the shoes will be donated to various non-profit organizations in the Southeast Texas community. Joining the “Project 1200” effort are twelve organizations, including the City of Beaumont Public Health Department, the City of Port Arthur Health Department, Medical Center of Southeast Texas Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospitals, Renaissance Hospital, IEA -Inspire, Encourage, Achieve; Southeast Texas Black Nurses Association, Region 5 Education Service Center, Julie Rogers "Gift of Life" Program, American Cancer Society, Lamar University, the Port Arthur YMCA, the Beaumont YWCA and Christus Hospitals.

ABOUT The Jefferson County Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Coalition – The organization was created in January, 2008 to increase awareness, promote prevention and cessation, improve resistance skills and protect the public from exposure to the harmful effects of tobacco. Membership is comprised of individuals, companies, agencies and organizations that subscribe to the mission of the Jefferson County Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Coalition.
